Yummy fresh roasted oysters. You can smell the salt and seafood in the air as you walk by one of these many Oyster Festivals in Hiroshima Prefecture in late January to February. I went to two of them in February, one in Ono near Miyahama and another one on Miyajima Island. There's also small stalls of them that line route 2 on the drive to Hiroshima City.

Go hungry, because you'll be tasting pretty much everything possible that can be made from oysters. From roasted oysters to oyster udon to oyster pancakes... the limitation is beyond imagination.
We got there shortly after noon and had to stand in line for 20 minutes to get our hands on a few plates of these deliciously roasted oysters. They are sweet and absolutely fresh. I loved smelling the roasted sea salt along with the oysters.
There's also a lot of entertainment. From famous singers to cover rock n'roll bands to Japanese cowboys seeing and dancing to country music. It's an feast for the eyes as well.
The oyster fest at Miyajima is slightly bigger, but the idea is the same. Lots of food, entertainment, and fun for the whole family, but be prepared to wait in line for your share of the oyster yummies. In general, everyone is just happy to be there and enjoying the food.
